How To Fake Being Awake

Waking up on Monday mornings is not the easiest thing to do, especially when you have decided to go to bed late, (despite promising yourself you wouldn’t). We know, we know, it’s hard to get off social media or stop binge-watching Pretty Little Liars on Netflix. But, the consequence of this decision means you’ll wake up and immediately notice your face is puffy, tired and lacking its usual luster. The worst thing about this is that everybody around you *will* know you didn’t get sleep, which is stressful in itself. Is there no solution? Of course there is. Just because you’ve skipped out on 8 hours of beauty sleep, doesn’t mean you can’t fake it. With the right products you can trick others (and yourself) into believing you aren’t tired, even though you are.  If you’d like to know the secret to faking being awake, read on…

1: Cleanse & Exfoliate

After cleansing with radiance boosting cleanser, make sure to finish off with a splash of the cold water to get your circulation going. If you want to go the extra mile you can also use an energizing face scrub, as it will also help revitalise your tired skin and give you healthy glow.

2: Correct & Conceal   

Before putting on any correctors or concealers, you should apply an eye cream/eye roll that helps target puffy eyes. If you don’t have one at hand, freeze two tablespoons for about 5 minutes and then gently press them against your eyes.

If your bags are really dark, consider using a colour corrector to help counteract this problem. Concealer is saviour when it comes to faking being awake, but paired with a corrector, you can easily convince those around you that you woke up like this. Apply concealer after colour correct, make sure its one that is long-lasting and also has an anti-fatigue effect. On a day to day basis, I don’t wear foundation. So if you’re using a foundation that already encompasses these factors, you don’t need to worry so much about what concealer you are wearing. After this you should try to  set your concealer with a yellow-toned ‘banana’ setting powder, these tend to suits all skin tones and also  work to colour correct redness and help neutralise dark under eye circles.

3: Strobing & Brightening

The next step is to highlight (strobe) and brighten… It’s not as complicated as it sounds, all you need is a nude eyeliner and a highlighter of your preference. My personal favourites are Makeup Revolution’s Baked Highlighter in Peach Lights and Anastasia Beverly Hill’s Sand Highlighter. Let’s get back to the nude eyeliner,  nude toned eyeliner help create the optical illusion of wider, fuller and more awake eyes. If your skin is darker this trick doesn’t always seem to work as well, so try using a glittery gold eyeliner as a substitute for the nude colour.

Onto the strobing… Strobing can instantly make you look awake and as if you’ve had the best beauty sleep ever, that is if you apply it correctly. For this technique you can use your fingers, a beauty blender or a fan brush. You don’t need to use a lot of highlighting powder as a too much of it will make you look like a fairy…A few months ago we reposted this picture on our Instagram page and praised the Australian highlighting Ania Milczarczyk queen for creating it. Notice how awake Ania’s model looks? Your goal is to achieve the same.
For everyday work makeup we wouldn’t recommend you strobe everywhere Ania has marked, but instead try concentrating on the inner eye areas, brows and on the orbital/upper cheek bones. These areas are the best areas to target when trying to fake being awake.

4: Mascara, Blush & Lipgloss

The final steps are the most important. Pick a mascara packed with vitamins that can help your lengthen your lashes and also make your eyes look energized, my favourite is Rimmel’s Wake Me Up Mascara.

Instead of tried-and-tested barbie pink, opt for a peachy/orange blush to create a lit from within type of effect. The best thing about peachy/orange toned blushes is that they suit all skin tones:

With all your face done, all that is left the lips. A peachy lipgloss or a plain shimmery one are both good choices to round up this makeup look…
