Treating Skin Problems

Coconut oil is high in vitamin E, which is known for it’s skin healing property. The combination of anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-bacterial and hydrating properties make it truly unique. A recent double-blinded study compared mineral oil to coconut oil as topical treatment for children with eczema. The results showed that 46 percent of patients using the coconut oil had an excellent response, compared to only 19 percent of patients using only mineral oil. As well as eczema, coconut oil has also proven to be beneficial in helping to treat the following skin problems.

  • Acne
  • Acne Scarring
  • Psoriasis
  • Itching from bug bites
  • Healing of burns, cuts and bruises
  • Nail/toenail fungus
  • Scars/stretchmarks
  • Diaper rash and cradle cap for babies
  • Dry, cracked skin on fee, elbows and knees
  • Dandruff
  • Ear infections

Removing Makeup

Coconut oil can be used to remove makeup such as foundation, mascara, eyeliner and lipstick. All you have to do it dab a bit of water onto a cotton pad, put some coconut oil onto the pad and gently wipe the area. The makeup will be removed very easily and because it’s very nurturing to the eye area and eyelashes, it can also act as a eye makeup remover and eye cream all in one.  Amazing stuff!

Cleansing The Skin

Using coconut oil to cleanse your skin is known as the oil cleansing method. There is no soap involved, just a bit of coconut oil and hot water. All you have to do is massage the coconut oil into your face, dampen your wash cloth with hot water and wipe your face. You want to make sure that the cloth is damp and not soaking wet – think hot face towel. For a deep cleanse, use half coconut oil and half caster oil. Castor oil will deep cleanse the skin whilst the coconut oil acts as a moisturizer; lovely combination.

Hair Conditioner

Coconut oil makes one of the best alternatives to your traditional high-street conditioner because it has the ability to penetrate the hair shaft due to its low molecular weight and affinity for proteins, leaving your hair deeply nurished and moisturised. A study found that coconut oil reduced protein loss in both damaged and undamaged hair when used before shampooing and as a leave-in treatment. Simply massage the oil into your dry hair and onto your scalp dry massage, ensuring that you distribute the contents evenly. Leave the oil in for a a minimum of an hour (or overnight for a deep condition), then shampoo and condition as normal. When you finish, you will find that your hair is left feeling super soft and highly manageable. Since coconut oil has anti-fungal benefits, it’s actually great for scalp condition like dandruff, lice and an itchy scalp.

Body Scrub

A mixture of coconut oil and sugar can make a great effective body scrub. It’s simple to make and will leave your skin feeling silky smooth. The great thing about this mixture is that you can use it as a facial exfoliating scrub, which will not only remove your dead skin cells, but moisturise your skin too. A great all-in-one affordable product. To make the scrub at home, just combine equal parts of sugar and coconut oil together and mix. Walahh we’re done! .

Shaving Cream

Coconut oil works as a great alternative to shaving cream. The oil lubricates the skin, which allows the razor to glide really easy and remove the hair. After you’re done, just massage a little bit of coconut oil into the skin to lock in the moisture.

Facial and Body Moisturizer

Coconut oil is probably most used as a facial and body moisturizer. Though it’s an oil, it won’t clog your pores and instead leaves your skin absolutely glowing. The triglycerides in coconut oil help to keep moisture from escaping the skin and the great thing about it is that you can customize it to suit your needs without compromising on the benefits. For example, if you love to relax in the evening, then go ahead and add some lavender oil to your bath time routine. You can also add some coconut oil to the bath water but be careful and remember to wash the bath out throughly when you’ve finished, otherwise you’ll leave a very slippery bath tub behind, which can be a danger to the person that’s next in line.

Eat it For Health & Beauty

One of the greatest benefits of coconut oil is what it offers you when you take it internally. We can look beautiful on the outside but we still need to take care of our insides. The health benefits are numerous and it’s known to release energy quickly, making it a great thing to eat before you go for a workout. Here are the health and beauty benefits if you were to eat coconut oil.
