Deal Real holds a preview launch party before it returns to Carnaby Street as a pop-up for Record Store Day Saturday.
Located just off Carnaby Street, Deal Real record shop had become an iconic place for hip hop and the urban youth culture. Before it closed in 2007, Deal Real held some amazing in-store events with the likes of Amy Winehouse, Kayne West and Mos Def all passing through to give a performance. Last night (16th April) the shop held an preview party, which showcased the great work of 10 students who all came together to make it happen. The night featured performances from Akala and Age of Luna.
Co-founder Vincent Olutayo gave an opening speech about the history of Deal Real record shop and the impact that it made on the UK music scene and urban youth culture. It was a place that saw the stars of the industry begin their journey, including the likes of Tinchy Stryder, Novelist and Kano.
Before the preview party, Vincent stated “It’s fantastic being able to celebrate the legacy of Deal Real with Carnaby and to use the opportunity to re-establish our ethos of supporting up and coming talent from music, fashion or art, as well as young people aspiring to establish creative careers.”
Deal Real will re-launch in London with a pop-up shop tomorrow Saturday 18th April. The store will hold in-store events over the next 6 weeks, re-connecting with selected Deal Real alumni including Ghetts, Ruff Squad and Devlin.
