L’Oreal True Match Foundation Review

Hey guys, did you miss me? Thought so 🙂 When I jetted off to the sunny island of Gran Canaria, I have to admit my brain was a little pickled. I forgot to purchase a foundation that would accentuate my tan (optimistic I know), so I thought what better time than now for me to try out a new foundation. After gaining a healthy looking glow, I wanted to purchase a product I’ve never used before, but at high street prices. I trotted down to my local boots and after much consideration, I hand picked L’Oreal True Match Foundation to see if it really was a match made in heaven.

PRODUCT AVAILABILITY

The L’Oreal True Match Foundation is available at popular drugstores across the UK, including Boots and Superdrug. The hardest thing is actually finding a store that covers all 22 shades, which will allow you to make an informed decision on what’s best to purchase for your skin tone. Because I have an unusual tone I like to have a variety, but unfortunately my local boots only presented me with 4 options. I guess I’m just too used to shopping in high-end makeup stores like MAC or Estee Lauder. If you want the same luxury and variation as these high-end outlets then my advice would be to shop at one of the flagship department stores. If this isn’t possible then plan b would be to check the stock of shades at your local drugstore before making the journey. The last thing you want is to turn up blind only to be disappointed that they don’t have what you need.

COVERAGE AND TEXTURE

True Match provides a light to medium coverage, which is perfect if you’re looking for an everyday foundation. If you have quite heavy scarring or pigmentation, then you would need to apply more than one layer. When buffed in, the product really does anchor itself to the skin, leaving you with all day coverage. I applied the foundation using my Real Techniques Stippling Brush and for me, the texture of True Match is what I really love. It’s smooth and creamy but not too thick; the consistency is light and it glides onto the skin in a really nice way. It leaves a matte sticky texture, which is great if you have dry skin as it means you don’t have to use a powder.

FINISH AND LASTING POWER

morningandnightwear

The foundation has a luminous finish so you get a nice glow without looking greasy. Since I have dry skin, foundations that provide a glow are always a plus for me. When I first applied the foundation it did look a little orange, but once I had buffed it in, it gave me a lovely glow and adapted to my skin nicely. The product states that in 2 weeks skin feels smoother, looks healthier and more even. The appearance of skin quality is improved“. Now I have only been using the product for a week or so, but I do feel that my complexion is clearer, my skin tone is even and feels very healthy and hydrated. On this note, it’s important to remember that I have just come back from a week in the sun, which begs the question: Is it True Match or is it Gran Canaria? The jury’s out on that one for now I’m afraid, but I will continue to use this foundation and update you on how I get on as my tan begins to fade!

When buffed in, the product really does anchor itself to the skin, leaving you with all day finish. For seven days in a row, I’ve worn this foundation for 12 hours and have never felt the need to reapply. In regards to oil control, I do get shine spots appearing around my t-zone after 8 hours or so. It’s at this point that I would reach for my blotting sheets or apply a sweep of powder to remove any oil. Apart from this, the base never looks patchy or worn away on my skin.

FINAL THOUGHTS

loveproductOverall, I have to say, it’s the first time I’ve been converted to a high-street brand! For me, L’Oreal True Match Foundation is great. With a smooth application, great finish, sun protection, longevity, wide colour range – it really does tick all the boxes! It’s fantastic for everyday wear and the biggest plus is the price. At £9.99 you just can’t go wrong. With all this said, there is a downside for me – the lack of availability. As I mentioned before local drugstores don’t stock all 22 shades so if you don’t live near a flagship store, you really have to do your research before leaving your home. Other than that, I am very happy with the product itself, and would place it up there alongside the higher end brands like MAC, Chanel, Nars, Estee Lauder and Bobbi Brown!
